Pro8mm sees themselves as agents of change in the way people think about the archiving of their treasured home movies. Archive denotes a collection that you store and preserve. We think that homes movies are meant to be shared.
Home movies that are encoded, put on a hard drive and then brought into your computer as "playlists" of your families legacy are powerful. They can be edited on whatever computer home editing system you have, shared via social networking sites such as Facebook and tagged on channels such as YouTube. They can be uploaded to your iPhone or iPad. Now you have The Power of a Home Movie Legacy at your fingertips.

Why Pro8mm for transferring Home Movies?
We have over 40 years experience in the digital re-mastering of home movies and historic footage of the world's most famous faces and places. For this footage of personal, documentary, and archival use, we use state of the art professional digital mastering technology, the same that is used in the film industry to transfer family movie films. Pro8mm has worked exclusively with Regular 8 and Super 8 film in a professional capacity and is asserting a major effort to educate and raise the consciousness of the public.
Unlike the local big box, camera store, or home hobbyist that can make a low quality DVD of home movies from a projected image, Pro8mm is a professional motion picture company that is solely dedicated to the archiving of small format film. A highly trained film professional will perform proper inspection and archival prep and cleaning of the original films, replace bad splices, add high quality leader to the front and tail to help you preserve your original film source. The film is then digitally scanned using a sophisticated flying spot scanner, the same type used to transfer major motion pictures, commercials and television shows. A professionally trained colorist will color time each frame, scene by scene for color and exposure. This technique of timing used in all professional film projects will provide you with the highest quality master possible. This process will often make the new digital master look better than the original film.
Home Movie Transfer Choices
When choosing a facility to transfer your precious memories make sure you take the time to investigate how the work is being done. While there are places that will do the work very cheap, you can expect to get what you pay for. Unlike a vast majority of places that will "transfer your film to DVD" on a projection based system with a video camera taping the image as the film passes through, Pro8mm treats your home movie film or video tapes the same way film is treated for a theatrically released movie. Your film is scanned by trained professionals with years of experience in a suite designed for scanning (not a big facility with dozens of machines and marginally trained technicians, or a home based business). We give you back your film on an archival safe reel, as you always want to protect the original film from further deterioration for future use. Projection based telecine cannot offer scene-to-scene color correction, dirt & scratch concealment, and can damage film that has shrunk, broken sprockets or is in deteriorating condition.
You can choose maximum quality or maximum economy when you have your archive scanned on either of our distinct scanning systems with Y-front technology, the premier system for dirt & scratch concealment.
The Millennium II is our state of the art system for gorgeous native 1080 HD scans. True HD is not up-rezzed or line doubled.
The Y-Front Ursa Diamond is an excellent choice for color corrected scans with dirt & scratch concealment.
Which ever system you choose to fit your budget, you will be getting the best in home movie scanning by a professional motion picture company.
